BACKUP GOES BEYOND
20 YEARS OF BACKUP
BACKUP & BEYOND intends to support new talent, new cinematic perspectives and modern techniques in storytelling. For the competitions, an independent jury consisting of film and TV makers, producers, designers, and media theorists will award the most outstanding entries with prizes in different categories.
Taking place in WEIMAR, GERMANY, the European cultural capital 1999, it is an interesting destination for everyone interested not only in film and digital arts, but also in art-, music- and literary history. Weimar was home to some important writers such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller, as well as composers like Franz Liszt. Later, artists and architects (among them Henry van de Velde, Wassily Kandinsky and Walter Gropius) founded the Bauhaus movement in Weimar, the most important German design school of the time between the First World War and the Second World War. In 2019 the BAUHAUS turns 100 years old.
During this year’s BAUHAUS100 celebrations, experimental, animated, documentary and live action short films as well as music videos of up to 30 minutes in length from students and graduates of arts-, media-, and design schools will be shown.
Expect all sorts of people enjoying futuristic, immersive films together. These films might never change the world, but they will at least challenge your point of view and expand your horizons in ways you never knew existed. Expect performances by musicians, experimental virtual reality films, as well as various workshops.
Discussions with filmmakers, designers, media artists, theorists, musicians and producers, art installations, great food, and a spectacular afterparty will round out the mix.
Visit WEIMAR, grab a piece of the future at the BACKUP & BEYOND festival, then tell the rest of the world about it!
We’re looking forward to meeting you. Stay tuned!
Lots of love from the BACKUP & BEYOND festival team.
